Professional Opinions on this Book

Mainstream medicine begrudgingly entertains the possibility that energy can play a useful role in health and healing.  Energy healing techniques like Healing Touch and Reiki are making their way into hospitals and clinics.  However, contemporary western medicine steadfastly avoids, if not denies altogether, the possibility that spiritual factors – including spirits themselves – may play an important role in healing as well.  Dr. Busby is unique among authors in that he not only has formal academic training in both medicine and theology, but he has a master’s degree in biophysics as well.  The title of his clinical book, Spiritual Healing: Help from the Spirit World, curiously parallels the subtitle of my research book, The Sacred Promise: How Science is Discovering Spirits Collaboration with Us in Our Daily Lives.  His is a watershed book.  I recommend it highly for clinicians and scientists as well as the general reader interested in spirituality and health.

It's a courageous professional who will discuss the paranormal in healing, as the paranormal has been not only marginalized but thought to be "crazy stuff" by more than 50 per cent of us in the Western World.  In this book Dr. Busby gives both a courageous and a scholarly discussion of disembodied humans serving those in body via extraordinary healing throughout time.  A rare and fascinating mapping of an amazing territory few have charted.

Dr. Douglas Busby was one our central subjects in the Discovery Channel film, John of God: Miracle Man.  Dr. Busby used both his medical and theological training to offer insight into the healing work of spiritual surgeon, John of God, in Brazil.  I am thrilled that he has continued to explore this fascinating and poorly understood aspect of healing and the spiritual world.  He is both thorough and open minded, and is unafraid to share what he has learned, which for many may be difficult to comprehend or believe.  Thank you Dr. Busby!
